Not only will SAIT be host to Getenergy’s first conference in Canada, but with your help, SAIT could be taking home the prestigious Getenergy award for the best education/training provider of the year. SAIT was nominated for its Training for Workforce Nationalization program that focuses on preparing Angolan nationals to work successfully in their own country.

Since the early 1980s, SAIT Polytechnic has been providing workforce development solutions for a wide spectrum of organizations and their employees around the world. Our Training for Workforce Nationalization program for operations and maintenance has become a best practice for developing high-school educated technicians and operators in an effective and efficient manner, and to the standards required by oil and gas multinationals.

This Program (delivered over a 12 to 18-month period both in-Country and in-Canada) takes a holistic approach to learning ensuring success for each individual participant and the achievement of company objectives. “The training for Workforce Nationalization program not only provides theory and hands-on training, but also takes into account the personal and professional development of participants,” says John Carlson, Associate Vice President of Energy at SAIT Polytechnic. In 2010, more than 100 Angolan students were given the unique opportunity to come to Canada and participate in the program.

The January 2011 video above highlights the five-month in-Canada training component of SAIT's Training for Workforce Nationalization program that was delivered to Angola LNG, one of the companies SAIT is working with in Angola.

SAIT is up against the IHRDC and TUV Academy Iran-Germany in the category. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on the evening of June 7 at the Bear’s Den Restaurant in Calgary.

Winners will be decided by secure online public voting on the Getenergy website until June 7 at noon.
