Power Engineering First Class

For Alberta, completion of Part A of this course is an equivalent to the minimum education required to write the Government Exams. Completion of Part A and Part B will provide you with up to 12 months' credit in lieu of the 36 months needed for operating experience in a power plant. or more information regarding certification regulations go to the ABSA or SOPEEC websites. The completion of 12 essay format assignments and a number of SAIT exams will be required. See the Notes section below for more details.

This self-study course is offered by correspondence and starts when your registration is processed. Course Content: Part A covers Heat & Heat Engines; Import Plant Cycles; Engineering Mechanics; Power Engineering Materials; Power Engineering Fuels and Combustion; Power Plant Water Supply and Water Treatment; and Power Plant Construction, Commissioning and Operation. Part B covers:Power Engineering Regulations and Codes; Power Plant Safety Management; Power Plant Environment Management I; Power Plant Environment Management II; Power Plant General Management; and Chief Engineering as Power Plant Manager. Prerequisite: Must be a holder of a Second Class Provincial Certification or equivalent.It's recommended that students have a minimum of Grade 12 Math, Physics and English. *Note that there are additional costs for learning materials as well as shipping and handling associated with this course.
