FOUNDATION™ Fieldbus Certified Training

SAIT Polytechnic is a Foundation™ Certified Solution Provider. Since 2000 we have been helping managers, engineers and technicians worldwide realize the potential of Foundation fieldbus technology with our certified end-user training.  

We offer the five-day Foundation™ Fieldbus Certified Professional and the four-day Foundation™ Certified Technician. Delivered in SAIT's dedicated lab facilities, these fast-track programs present theory and lab exercises in order to gain practical knowledge.  Find out about upcoming dates for these courses.

End User Training

Foundation™ Fieldbus Certified Professional (5 days)

This five-day program is intended for engineers, technologists, system integrators, EPC professionals and others who require comprehensive training in the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of Foundation™ fieldbus systems. This program presents theory and lab exercises in order to gain practical knowledge. Participants receive Foundation™ Certified Professional Certification upon successful completion of this program.

Foundation™ Fieldbus Certified Technician (4 days)

This four-day Foundation™ Fieldbus Certified Technician program is intended for maintenance technicians, network technicians, vendor/contract service specialists and associate maintenance and contract maintenance supervisors, as well others who require comprehensive training in the installation, maintenance, repair/replacement and troubleshooting of Foundation fieldbus systems. This course presents theory, lab, and hands-on exercises in order to gain practical knowledge. The course also provides an understanding of how the various components of the system interact with each other, particularly the Distributed Control Systems and Maintenance Management System. Participants receive Foundation™ Certified Technician Certification upon successful completion of this program.

Upon request, we also offer the one-day Foundation™ Fieldbus Essentials course which provides an overall introduction to Fieldbus technology.

World-Class Instruction

Ian Verhappen, P. Eng. is one of the world's foremost experts on Foundation™ fieldbus. He has authored numerous technical papers on the subject of Fieldbus and is a regular columnist for several industry trade journals. As past chairman of the Western Canada End User Council, past chairman of the Fieldbus Foundation Global End User Advisory Council, and active on a number of Fieldbus specification committees, Mr. Verhappen has been instrumental in setting the direction of Fieldbus technology. Verhappen has served as engineer/designer or external /cold eyes review consultant and project lead for a number of companies and industries around the world.

State-of-the-Art Lab Facilities

Reflecting the most up-to-date standards in the industry, SAIT recently upgraded its Foundation fieldbus lab (click to view video) at its Calgary campus to incorporate Foundation HSE technology. The updated laboratory demonstrates Fieldbus instruments’ interoperability from over a dozen different manufacturers. In addition to the National Instruments Host used for the majority of our laboratory exercises, SAIT also has Host systems from Honeywell Experion, Yokogawa CENTUM, Smar System 302, and Emerson DeltaV, thus providing learners with exposure to a diverse and comprehensive Fieldbus experience. SAIT’s Fieldbus lab facility provides each learner with his/her own training station that includes four Foundation fieldbus devices from four different manufacturers. More than 20 different manufacturers of Fieldbus equipment are represented in the lab.

SAIT also has the capability of delivering training on-site using our portable lab kits. These kits weigh less than 50 lbs and each case contains the complete H1 network, configuration and network diagnostic tools.
