This course will introduce the basic concepts and processes for successful project management. Participants will explore proven best practices for defining, planning, organizing and executing a project. Examination of the project life cycle will highlight the need for a phased-approach to project work with stage-gate approvals to ensure strategic alignment and effective project governance. The learning material and group exercises will provide participants with hands-on experience using the vocabulary, knowledge, and tools needed to properly define, plan, manage and successfully implement a project. Special emphasis will be given to the crucial up-front effort to clearly define, in consultation with key stakeholders, the project scope, the projects strategic value and expected results. Throughout the course, participants will examine and apply widely recognized project management techniques, tools and templates.
No prerequisite for this course. This course meets the hourly requirement for CAPMĀ®. This course can be applied toward SAIT's Applied Management Certificate. If you are completing SAIT's Applied Project Management Certificate, this is a required course with option to take either: all three of the following courses: BCPT-174, BCPT-175 and PROJ-150; OR just BCPT-239. *Note that for our self-study option, course starts upon registration completion.
